Near Zero Energy Buildings. The European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), requires all new buildings to be nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) by 31st December 2020 and all buildings acquired by public bodies by 31st December 2018.
Therefore, any buildings completed after these dates will need to achieve the standard irrespective of when they were started. This is quite different to the transitional arrangements for previous building regulations revisions.
To comply with the nZEB requirement, the Irish Government has issued revised Building Regulations Part L – Conservation of Fuel and Energy, – Buildings other than Dwellings (2017) and Technical Guidance Document L – Conservation of Fuel and Energy – Dwellings (2017) (residential).
